Job Overview
Parsons is seeking an exceptional Senior Stormwater Engineer to lead the design, planning, and implementation of cutting-edge stormwater management systems for diverse infrastructure projects. This role demands expertise in hydrology, hydraulics, and regulatory compliance, along with a passion for sustainability and innovation. The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional capable of managing complex projects, mentoring junior staff, and delivering environmentally responsible stormwater solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Stormwater Management System Design
- Lead the design and planning of stormwater management systems, including drainage networks, stormwater ponds, infiltration systems, and water quality treatment solutions.
- Develop detailed design calculations, hydraulic and hydrological models, and technical drawings using industry-standard software (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWMM, XP-SWMM, AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
- Ensure designs comply with local regulations, industry standards, and sustainability goals to enhance flood prevention and stormwater management.
Hydrologic and Hydraulic Analysis
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses to evaluate stormwater flow, water quality, and system capacity across infrastructure projects.
- Conduct flood risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for flood-prone areas.
- Utilize advanced stormwater modeling tools to simulate rainfall events, runoff, and system performance.
Regulatory Compliance and Permitting
- Ensure all stormwater designs align with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., NPDES, EPA, and local stormwater management codes).
- Prepare and submit documentation and reports for regulatory approvals and permits.
- Stay informed on evolving stormwater regulations and best practices.
Sustainability and Green Infrastructure
- Integrate sustainable stormwater management techniques, such as Low Impact Development (LID), permeable pavements, bioretention areas, and vegetated swales.
- Advocate for innovative and sustainable stormwater solutions to address urbanization and climate change challenges.
- Ensure designs promote environmental sustainability, water conservation, and ecosystem health.
Project Management and Leadership
- Oversee multiple stormwater projects, ensuring on-time, budget-conscious, and high-quality deliverables.
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering professional growth and technical excellence.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary engineering teams to integrate stormwater systems into broader infrastructure designs.
- Maintain strong client relationships, ensuring timely communication and project success.
Site Inspections and Construction Oversight
- Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure adherence to design specifications during construction.
- Provide technical support and resolve any design challenges that arise on-site.
- Oversee system commissioning to ensure performance meets design expectations.
Risk Management and Reporting
- Identify potential stormwater-related risks, such as flooding, erosion, or contamination, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and proposals for stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and clients.
- Monitor and assess the performance of installed stormwater systems, recommending improvements as needed.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience
- 7–10 years of experience in stormwater management, hydrology, and hydraulics design, with at least 3–5 years in a senior or leadership role.
- Proven expertise in stormwater design for infrastructure projects (e.g., urban developments, transportation, flood management).
- Proficiency in stormwater modeling and design software (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWMM, XP-SWMM, AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
Skills & Knowledge
- Advanced understanding of hydrology, hydraulic modeling, flood control measures, and best practices in stormwater management.
- Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal stormwater regulations and permitting requirements.
- Expertise in sustainable stormwater solutions, including LID and green infrastructure.
- Excellent technical writing skills for preparing reports, documentation, and regulatory submissions.
- Strong leadership and communication skills for client and stakeholder collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications: PE (Professional Engineer), CFM (Certified Floodplain Manager), or LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) are highly desirable.
- Advanced Expertise: Familiarity with emerging stormwater technologies, such as smart water systems and evolving regulatory standards.
- Leadership Experience: Demonstrated ability to lead complex, multi-disciplinary stormwater projects and manage teams.
- Sustainability Focus: In-depth knowledge of environmentally sustainable stormwater management and water conservation strategies.
